Awkward 90s

I was just thinking why do I sometimes feel like an alien on the Swedish soil, and then it hit me. I grew up in the 90s, golden age of awkward moments in Slovenian POP music. Probably everywhere in the world, which explains why millennials have so many difficulties fitting in. It’s the music we grew up with, that makes us question this world that we live in.

In the spirit of my favorite book, High Fidelity and for my personal entertainment I collected top 5 mood boosters from the 90s.

Marta Zore - Še si tu

This is my ultimate favorite song of 90s - no joke. I love the high notes, because they fit perfectly to my angelic voice in the shower.

Saša - Vrtnar

A full on sex song where a bunch of Balkan men are seducing you until your pants drop.

Pop Design - Na bozicno noc

This has became a Slovenian Christmas anthem. It came out in 1989 and it’s a great intro into the 90s. Sam Mendes might as well got his inspiration for American Beauty from the art work in 0:31 min of the video. The band is singing about being alone on Christmas eve in a way that makes you happy for them and their power to overcome loneliness and depression of abandonment.

Power dancers - Ujemi me

A real disco boom boom song, which came out in 1997. Title of the song is “Catch me”. It’s about an indecisive girl that runs away if you count to 3 but comes back when you get to 5 and in the meantime she's having tons of fun.

Napoleon - Hocem te nazaj

Beginning is full of action and mystery and it ends in the same way, but the whole part in between is a gay parade. Net shirts, sparkly shirts, see trough shirts, blue eyeliner, fake tan, bare chested man, wet dancing, crotch touching. Just fabulous.
