Öland
It takes approx. 5 hours to come to Öland from Stockholm which makes it a bit inconvenient for a weekend trip. However if you share a car with a great friend and listen to a good old 90s mega hits, it's possible.
We witnessed a proper Lion Kind scenery on the way
Our base was close to the sea in a hostel that offers bikes for rental. Those bikes left us with baboon's butts, as well as the best memories of Öland.
I was blown away by the nature. One can never get enough of poppy fields and old windmills.
The main goal on our biking adventure was to see seals, have a nice lunch on the beach and maybe a dip in the sea. We never found seals (Bjärby area) or a nice spot to dip our toes. "Öland's white wale" was in different shapes and forms...a beach when you want to rest, a restaurant when you're hungry, seals when you bike for forty kilometers etc. It's easy to get obsessed over a point on a map, but for some reason Öland made it hard for us to reach it. In the end we found a beach but seals will be the reason to go back in the future.
The last stop was Borgholm Castle. Öland with its surfing spots seems a bit exotic but no one would expect camels. We found camels!
