Winter survival guide for an oldie

With a certain age, going out and spending weekends in bed with a hangover and pills + water next to you doesn't seem so appealing anymore and to be honest all those drunken nights only leave blanks in your memory and make you realize you have poor decision making skills once Cinderella leaves the party. Maybe we start to appreciate days on this planet a bit more or we just become resistant to the freak shows that go on every Friday and Sunday night.

Since I'm now closer to 30s than 20s, I will use this blank space for sharing some wisdom I gained through my 27 years of living on this planet. It's not much but I know that especially after 20s when you finally recover from the teenage blockade in your brain and start thinking clearly, you learn a thing or two about yourself. And as soon as you accept that people might not like you or agree with you all the time the journey really begins. I can only imagine how fun it gets after 50s when you really don't give a shit about anything or anyone. You can see old people walking around in their bathrobes and it's totally acceptable...they are cute. Those are the fun years!

So what are the perks of being old(er)?
  • With all this time on my hands now, I like to walk around this beautiful city I live in – Stockholm and enjoy it. I found my new favorite coffee place - Drop coffee. You get out of the Starbucks loving relationship and you are free to explore what else is out there.
  • I love brunches and there are variety of choices here in Stockholm. It's an ongoing competition, but for now I have my favorite brunch place just around the corner. Mostly because I'm super lazy on Sundays, but also because it's really good. This place also has the best bread I have ever tasted and I don't need more than that to be their happiest customer. I think it's good to emphasize that I'm a pro breakfast-food-all-day-long kind of a person. My idea of a good restaurant is one that serves breakfast food all day long but changes the size of bread or portion of mueslis...depending on the time of day. This trend hasn't come to Stockholm yet, but I heard there is a revolution going on in the US.
  • Art becomes more intriguing. Exhibitions and books are a good way to survive rainy days and stand-ups can make you forget about your problems and laugh at somebody else's. Gigs become places where you enjoy music and not just get drunk with no memory of the band playing the next day. Speaking of drinking, you become interested in the alcohol you're consuming not just the cheapest way to get it.
  • Health and taking care of yourself becomes important. I recently discovered a juicer and my life has a meaning now. Here are two of my favorite recipes:
    • Carrots, apples and ginger
    • Pineapple,strawberries and mint leaves
One might associate all this writing with me getting boring, but I can assure I'm still fun, especially when I put on my warm socks, treat myself to a glass of wine and a fun book...things get wild! I'm still very much for going out but partying like there IS tomorrow and going out to places where you can talk, became more appealing than communicating in sign language in an overcrowded disco boom boom place. Also occasional heavy drinking during the weekdays becomes a special event and you could almost get an award for it...I'm still young award.

These are all small changes for the mankind but a huge ones for a girl walking in Södermalm.
