Be a good person

It’s much easier to travel when you are. The fact is that people can take advantage of you and they probably did and will do...time after time. Because we are not living in an asshole-free world and sometimes shit just happens, but enough about toilet business.

You can frequently get cheated in cabs, abroad, home, wherever they have cars actually. In my opinion there is an underground cab mafia and as a consequence I can never trust them. Even if I get a fair charge, I would always assume they ripped me off. But that’s my personal struggle and I have to live with it. In China for instance you can refuse to pay or just give a driver payment he deserves. In that case you might get into fight and he won't be able to feed his family and so on. Even though there is a part of me that feels ripped off I always like to think that people are good. Maybe not Dalajlama good but deep down inside everybody keeps a little good person. Some people tend to suppress it though. However if you treat people well they might surprise you...even the worse ones. It sounds a little naive but focusing on rip-off's and bad cab drivers can destroy your vacation so it’s not worth it.

This leads me on to my next point – my airport friends. It frequently happens that I need to travel alone and spending hours and hours in airports can be damn boring. In past years I met many people that suffered the same fate. With some we became friends (as in Facebook friends) and we still keep in touch, with others we just had a coffee or two and stayed at “one flight friends” relationship, but overall people tend to be good when they travel. Keep that in mind next time you are in need of a fellow men’s help or a company at the airport. Don’t lose a chance to meet an interesting person by being an asshole or assuming the worst in people. Become a better self, a good person when you put your travelling suit on.
